Leading from the Library

Connecting Readers and Authors

Episode Summary

One thing that Karyn Lewis knew how to do well before the pandemic was virtual author visits, so when the lockdown happened, she immediately tried to find ways to connect her students to authors! She knew she could find authors who were willing to talk with her readers, she could spark an interest in reading and get them excited about books again. She was lucky enough to reach out to Varsha Bajaj, Joelle Charbonneau, Jennifer Neilsen, and Jen Calonita, who all agreed to visit with different groups of students from her school along with others in the district. And with her favorite day of the year coming up - WORLD READ ALOUD DAY - where she loves to pack as many author visits into one day as possible! They have met so many amazing authors, without anyone having to travel at all! Listen to her inspiring story and learn how you can do this within your library and community too.
